Celebrated artist Mariele Neudecker will discuss her practice, career and current exhibition at Hestercombe Gallery, SEDIMENT, with Artistic Director and artist Tim Martin.
In this special event, Mariele will explore her career spanning over three decades and her quest to find a ‘contemporary sublime’ through exploration of subjects such as mapping, perception, the invisible, painting and the history of art.
This event will be followed by the book launch and signing of Mariele Neudecker - SEDIMENT; a collection of essays by experts in various fields, including academics and curators from both art and science backgrounds, who address the diverse areas of Neudecker’s practice.
Copies of the book will be available to purchase.
Düsseldorf born German artist, Mariele Neudecker, lives and works in Bristol, UK. Through her work, Neudecker explores the interphases and overlaps of the two and three-dimensional, as well as analogue and digital. She uses a broad range of media including sculpture, film, photography as well as sound. Her practice investigates the formation and historical dissemination of cultural constructs around the natural and technological world and notions of a Contemporary Sublime. Neudecker has shown widely internationally, notably in Biennales in Japan, Australia and Singapore, also solo shows in Ikon Gallery, Tate St Ives and Tate Britain.
Tim Martin has curated exhibition programmes for over 20 years and in 2014 set up Hestercombe Gallery with the aim of presenting national and international work in the reclaimed spaces of Hestercombe House, whilst also developing residencies, commissions and community programmes. Martin’s curatorial practice overlaps with the making of work. He is concerned with the natural world and our relationship to it with inspiration being drawn from journeys made in the landscape, specific sites or issues, usually presented in collaboration with others.
SEDIMENT at Hestercombe Gallery runs from 14th August until 24th October 2021.
