We are so grateful to Tesco as thanks to their Bags of Help scheme, we’ve secured a grant for £3,935, which will mean we can keep rare plants on site and bring them on in a new heated greenhouse.
Gertrude Jekyll chose lots of plants for the Hestercombe planting scheme that are now very hard to get hold of, and this funding ensures we can keep growing them here in the grounds.
We’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all the shoppers who voted for us throughout July and August and enabled this funding from Tesco.
Our head gardener Claire is particular delighted with the news as it means she won’t have to try and source the plants from external suppliers quite so much, and who doesn’t love a warm green house!
Ian Walker, who’s our Fundraising Manager says: “This is great news as it ensures rare plants that were specified by Gertude Jekyll’s original plans of Hestercombe Gardens remain available to us. These are becoming increasingly hard to source as new varieties are introduced.”
Since launching in 2015, Bags of Help has awarded more than £36 million across more than 7,900 local projects and we are so pleased to be one of them!
