Victorian Shrubbery
Beyond the magnificent Daisy Steps, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens to create a link between his Formal garden and the earlier Landscape garden, lies the entrance to the Victorian Shrubbery. This small enclosed garden incorporates a nineteenth centry yew tunnel and views on to the Victorian water tower.
It was recreated in 1999 to complement the Victorian Terrace abutting the south front of the house and designed to reflect the naturalistic style of gardening being championed by William Robineson, friend and mentor of Gertrude Jekyll, at the time the house was being altered in the late 1870s.
