EUROPEAN  GARDEN  UNION
This month Hestercombe Gardens benefitted from its close partnership with the European Garden Heritage Network, an organisation working with over 150 parks and gardens in eight countries throughout Europe, including Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The EGHN has been helping to manage and develop parks and gardens sustainably, working with researchers, politicians and garden lovers since its foundation in 2003. Alongside Somerset County Council,Hestercombe has been able to provide signage for the gardens, improve disability access and create better transport links, including a bus stop. The partnership has also proved to be an effective way of promoting the unique story of Hestercombe on an international scale. Bob Croft from Somerset County Council Heritage Service said   "The story of the discovery and restoration of the gardens at Hestercombe is well known locally but the connection with the European Garden Heritage Network will help to promote Hestercombe across the wider network of over 150 parks and gardens in NW Europe".  Further information about regional routes and thematic garden tours in Somerset is available through the EGHN website. END
